Birch Bark Runner

This textured table runner is woven in Modified Basket Weave with a supplementary Inlay weft the creates Boutonné (pulled loops) throughout the design. The pattern and neutral color palette are inspired by birch trees and winter walks in the woods. Designed with beginner rigid heddle weavers in mind, this project combines a sturdy 3/2 organic cotton warp with a textural cotton slub weft.

Pattern downloads include files for both rigid heddle and shaft loom weaving. Yardage requirements and dimensions vary based upon the loom.  Order a kit.

Equipment

  • Rigid heddle or 4-shaft loom 
  • 7.5-dent reed for rigid heddle or 8-dent reed for shaft loom
  • 46-47 heddles per shaft for 4-shaft loom
  • 1 boat shuttle + bobbin and 1 stick shuttle
  • 5mm (US 8) knitting needle

Warp: Beam 3/2 Organic Cotton, 530-580 yds Natural.

Weft: Mallo Cotton Slub, 300 yds Natural, 90 yds Coal.
